Speculations on AI, Quantum computing and the gamut of technological advances are ubiquitous these days.

AWE in the plebeian.

FEAR in the bourgeois.

AVARICIOUS in the plutocrats.

These reactions from the different sections of people reflect three aspects of the society

1.State of awareness about technology in common people.

I recently heard a comic gig in which the comedian from South Africa addressing the audience in Toronto. He said “I don’t understand the food shows like the master chef, baking game etc. one side of the world crores of people deprived of the food and other side people experimenting on it for taste.”

He went on and even suggested the best way of judging these shows “try to feed the dish made by the participant chefs to a Syrian refugee. if he denies, just send that chef outside of show without any thought.”

Those words may have sounded ironic, but it is the surrounding reality. A common citizen of every society in the world is more vainglorious and misinformed now than any time in history. Communication sector is more developed and connected than ever yet it is more perplexed to be understood by a common citizen.

When and who need to act?

AI or any new technologies which are going to change the lives of a common citizen must be understood by them at a basic level and they must prepare for technological shock. Governments are the key elements in protecting this section of people from being suppressed of their rights by creating awareness.

Facebook data leaks case is a mere example what happens if it is not done. knowledge of technology, even in the government institutions can be understood, when you listen to what questions US congress asked sundar pichai of Google.

2. Triumph of fear over knowledge.

A serious illustration of this statement is “Project Maven”. According to the US defense department, Project Maven, also known as the Algorithmic Warfare Cross-Function Team, launched in April 2017. Among its objectives, the project aims to develop and integrate “computer-vision algorithms needed to help military and civilian analysts encumbered by the sheer volume of full-motion video data that DoD collects every day in support of counterinsurgency and counter terrorism operations,”.

Ultimately the 3000 Google employees, who are knowledgeable of its ramifications had took a great step against this project and signed petition forcing Google to end this project by 2019. Clearly Google had used its shenanigans in its bag by using amateurs who are in need of money to work for the project.

What experts with insights must do?

“NO” by these people is not enough to safeguard future generations. They must become a whistle blower, who are not only ethical but also responsible. Government policies must pave down the way in terms of strengthening policies or Creating the new institutions.

3.Game of wealth generation

Technological advancements are not advantageous in every way. Critically they work on the simple principle of augmenting the experience of the individual. video call raised the individuals experience from a voice call by creating the illusion of proximity to a person or thing, nuclear weapon inflated the expression of fear from grenade which in turn support the hegemony among the countries.

The game of “TECHNOLOGY GAP”: an advantage enjoyed by the country that introduces new goods in a market/ The country enjoys the advantage until other countries have achieved the ability to imitate the new good.

As mere example “A industrial gas turbine is first introduced in 1938 but even today after eight decades India unable to manufacture indigenous gas turbine but had capacity of 13718 MW gas turbine installed by 2011”

Today we are talking about abandoning internal combustion engines but still the benefits of technology gap enjoyed by some countries never paid reparations in whatever form to humanity. the other world given them raw materials and been a consumer for their finished goods.Knowledge must be given incentive by equitable wealth generation but not to create inequality of 99 to 1.

https://www.bbc.com/news/business-35339475

It’s the same case for internet and many cash cow technologies.

What must considered when creating future cash cows from these technologies?

Technology gap must not be an emphasis of wealth. race is not the word you need to use for implementation of these technology.

Instead build them on the TRUST because it is what needed when you are more connected. Let them have a power to say NO. Any technology implementation must be voted by common citizen to go ahead.

In a democratic society with 100 votes, if 80 people say NOTA, 11 people say YES,9 people say NO.Yes will be a clear winner.I dont understand the logic of utilitarianism behind this decision.Government policies addressing these technology implementation will need to give emphasis to the NOTA.

Trust and belief in the government institutions and strength of socialist, capitalist governments which thrived for centuries itself are going to be tested in near future by these technological advancements.

“The dynamics between the agile reactions in the common citizens and retaliatory or firefighting policies made by government/companies are what that decides the future of AI or any technological advancement implementation in a society.”
